Descriptions
History
Our homeschool history class is an engaging, hands-on exploration of the past using Story of the World as our guide. This year, we are diving into Volume One, which takes us through the early civilizations, from the rise of ancient Mesopotamia to the fall of Rome. Each lesson is designed to make history come alive with fun, interactive activities. We create art projects, reenact historical events, and build models to better understand the cultures and time periods we study. Whether we’re crafting ancient tools, mapping early empires, or acting out famous stories, learning history is never boring! The goal is to make the past feel relevant and exciting, and we strive to connect each lesson to our lives today.
Next year, we’ll continue our journey with Story of the World Volume Two, expanding our horizons to the Middle Ages and beyond. But for now, we’re enjoying every moment as we step back in time, bringing history to life with creativity, fun, and hands-on learning!
Science
Our homeschool science enrichment class is all about hands-on learning and fun experimentation! We use exciting science kits from the Fab Lab in Sarasota Lending Library, which provide everything we need for a wide range of experiments. Each kit comes with detailed lesson plans and activities that align with educational standards, ensuring we cover key scientific concepts while having a blast. From exploring chemistry reactions to building simple machines, each class is an opportunity to get our hands dirty and dive into real-world science. Whether we’re mixing colorful solutions, growing crystals, or constructing circuits, our focus is on curiosity, discovery, and making science come to life. The Fab Lab kits make learning easy, engaging, and full of surprises, so every week is a new adventure in the world of science!
Literature
Our homeschool literature enrichment program is a dynamic and engaging book club designed to make reading come alive! Each month, we select a fun and exciting book that sparks curiosity and invites thoughtful discussions. The books are carefully chosen to be both entertaining and educational, ranging from timeless classics to contemporary favorites. In our weekly sessions, we read together, dive deep into the story, explore themes, and share our thoughts and insights. It's all about creating a space where everyone feels comfortable expressing their ideas and connecting with the characters and events.
But it's not just about reading – we make it interactive! Along with discussions, we include creative activities like drawing scenes from the book, acting out favorite moments, or even creating themed projects. The goal is to foster a love of reading, critical thinking, and meaningful conversation while having fun with friends. Whether we’re unraveling a mystery, exploring new worlds, or learning from the characters' journeys, our book club is all about making literature an exciting adventure!
Baking and cooking
Our homeschool baking and cooking class is a delightful blend of creativity, culture, and tasty treats! Sometimes, we just follow our cravings and bake or cook whatever sounds fun—whether it’s cookies, cakes, or savory dishes that we’ve always wanted to try. The kitchen becomes our playground as we experiment with new recipes, learn cooking techniques, and enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Other times, we tie our cooking adventures to history and geography lessons, bringing the world’s flavors into our kitchen. We might explore ancient civilizations by baking bread like the Egyptians or cook a traditional dish from a country we’re studying in geography. It’s a fun and delicious way to make history and culture come alive!
Whether we're making homemade pasta, preparing a historical feast, or whipping up our favorite desserts, the focus is on hands-on learning, teamwork, and of course, enjoying what we’ve made. This class is about more than just cooking—it's about building skills, exploring new tastes, and connecting food to the world around us!
Art
Our homeschool enrichment art class is a fun, hands-on exploration of creativity where we dive into both fiber arts and traditional arts and crafts. Students will learn the basics of fiber arts such as sewing, knitting, and weaving, discovering how fabric and yarn can be transformed into beautiful, functional pieces. Whether it’s making a cozy scarf, stitching a fabric design, or weaving colorful patterns, we explore the endless possibilities of working with fibers.
In addition to fiber arts, the class also includes a variety of arts and crafts projects, from painting and drawing to making homemade jewelry or creating clay sculptures. Each project encourages creativity and self-expression while building essential artistic skills. Students will experiment with different materials and techniques, learning how to combine colors, textures, and patterns in their work.
The goal of this class is to inspire confidence, foster creativity, and help students discover the joy of making something with their own hands, whether it’s a soft handmade gift or a colorful painting. Every project is an opportunity to learn, have fun, and express individuality through the world of art!
Math- Students will see how math comes alive in everyday life! Through hands-on projects like budgeting for a trip, designing a dream house, or planning a garden, kids learn practical math skills they can use beyond the classroom. We focus on problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world applications to make math meaningful, useful, and fun. Through board games, card games, logic puzzles, and team challenges, students practice math skills in a playful, low-pressure environment. They’ll build confidence with addition, multiplication, fractions, strategy, and more
English enrichment- Students will dive into the magic of storytelling, creative writing, and playful language exploration. Through games, group storytelling, writing adventures, and imaginative activities, kids will build strong reading and writing skills while having a blast. Whether it's creating characters, acting out stories, playing word games, or working together to write a group novel, students will be encouraged to take the lead, follow their curiosity, and express themselves in fun and meaningful ways. Our focus is on making language arts come alive through creativity, collaboration, and lots of laughter!
